Are you new to yoga? Or has it been a while since you last hit the mat?
Getting started - or started again - with any new activity can be daunting, especially when you don’t know what to expect.
Here are a list of questions that people frequently ask us.
1. How do I get started?
We recommend starting with our 30 Day Introductory Offer as not only does it offer great value, it allows you to come and experience the class styles, teachers and our new look studio. We fully encourage you make the most of the offer and immerse yourself.
2. How do I book a class?
The first step is to create a Soul Haven; Yoga account through our MindBody Online booking system. You can access this right from your smart phone, or via the MindBody or Soul Haven; Yoga websites. If you’re ready to go, you can create an account by clicking here.
3. What do i need to bring?
Bring yourself! Showing up is the most important thing of all. Outside of this, we suggest bringing a mat, towel and drink bottle. Mats are complimentary for the first class, and after this are available for hire for $1. We recommend wearing suitable yoga and fitness clothing that is stretchy and comfortable for movement. Outside of these things, bring a curious and open mindset with you to help you get the most out of your first classes.
4. What happens when I arrive for class?
Allow 10 to 15 mins prior to each class to check in at reception and to set yourself up inside the studio. We are a barefoot studio, so we’ll ask that you remove your shoes upon entering and place in the storage unit near the front door. Once on your mat, enjoy the stillness and quiet that the space provides; the perfect way to prepare for the mindful practise that awaits.
5. I’m not at all fit, and I’m definitely not bendy. Will yoga be for me?
Absolutely, yoga is accessible for everyone as a way to nourish their mind, body and soul. We’re an inclusive studio that welcomes everyone that comes through our doors, regardless of how long they have been practicing. If you’ve got the inclination, we’ve got the classes, mats and teachers ready and waiting to show you how you can bring life into balance. Every yogi’s experience began with a first class! Please let the class teacher know that you’re new to yoga and they will be able to guide and modify your practise.
6. What if it gets too much? Can I take a break?
Of course, everybody’s body and mindset is different, and we encourage everyone to listen to their body during class and honour what it needs in that moment. This may mean taking a break, so Child’s Pose (we’ll show you how to do this) or lying flat is always available to you.
7. What does a typical class look like?
Within our various classes come different teachers offering their own unique styles, life journeys and training. Our teachers are specifically trained to lead with their intuition and to creatively plan the class sequence, leading to a truly authentic experience in each class. All of our classes emphasise the synergy between breath and movement, with mindfulness weaved into to class themes. You’ll quickly learn that yoga practise involves listening to your body (your internal teacher) and working with whatever limitations are showing up for you on the mat.
8. I’m injured, can I still practice yoga?
Yes, of course. We offer a variety of classes and modifications that give you a choice of strong, slow or a deeper stretch, and we encourage you to listen to your body and find a class that suits you on any given day.
